Volunteer
The chapter runs entirely on volunteer time. Some of the work needs a uniform and a Saturday; a good deal of it needs nothing more than a laptop. Spouses, family members and interested members of the public are all welcome.
Where the help is needed
Parades, grave dedications, school visits and civic observances in Continental uniform. Loaner kit is available.
A few Saturdays a year
Cemetery records, county archives and the national databases, to document patriot burials and prepare marker applications.
At your own pace, from home
Judging essays and orations, or helping run the contest day. Teachers and lawyers especially welcome.
One or two days each spring
Setting up the banquet, staffing a table at a history fair, driving equipment, photographing a dedication.
As and when it suits you
Writing up events, editing copy, keeping the calendar current, or looking after this website.
An hour or two a month
Sorting, scanning and indexing the chapter’s own records so the next generation of officers can find things.
Flexible, in blocks
Nobody arrives knowing how to read an eighteenth-century pension file or drill with a musket. Both are taught, patiently.
There is no minimum commitment and no attendance requirement. Several of our most useful volunteers have never been to a meeting.
Students needing service hours are welcome, and archive and research work counts. Tell us what your school requires.
How to start
01
Email the chapter and say what you would like to do — or that you are not sure yet. There is no form to fill in.
02
Visit a meeting or a dedication as a guest before committing to anything.
03
Take one task, once. If it suits you, take another. Nobody is signed up to a rota they cannot leave.
Genealogy, carpentry, photography, teaching, spreadsheets, driving a van — this chapter has found a use for all of them.
Give today and your name goes in the appeal record kept at the chapter archive.
